To translate whatsapp voice messages into English with WAAudio, open your conversation in WhatsApp Web and turn on Incoming message translation. Set Incoming target language to English, then enable Voice message translation. Supported voice messages in the conversation are processed automatically, with English text appearing beside the original audio.

You do not need to click every recording or manually run transcription and translation as two separate tasks. The extension transcribes the audio first and translates that text for you. The result is written English that you can read and copy while staying in the conversation.

Before You Start

Check these four things before changing the translation settings:

  • WAAudio is installed and enabled in Chrome.
  • You are signed in to WhatsApp Web.
  • Your Max plan is activated. Voice message translation requires Max.
  • The conversation is open and the original voice message plays normally.

Keep the message you want to translate in view. This workflow handles supported audio available in the conversation; it does not require downloading an audio file, converting its format or uploading it to another website.

How to Translate WhatsApp Voice Messages to English

Step 1: Turn On Incoming Message Translation

Open the conversation containing the voice message. In the WAAudio controls, turn on Incoming message translation.

This switch is a prerequisite for voice translation. If it is off, the voice translation control may be unavailable or tell you to turn on incoming translation first. Turning on outgoing translation instead will not enable this workflow.

Step 2: Set the Incoming Target Language to English

Open Translation languages and find Incoming target language. Choose English. This tells the extension which language to use for the text it displays after processing a received message.

To translate whatsapp voice messages into English, change this incoming target setting rather than the extension's interface language. An English menu does not necessarily mean that messages will be translated into English. Likewise, Outgoing target language controls text you prepare to send, not the voice note you are trying to understand.

If the conversation uses Individual settings, check its own incoming target language. A chat with separate settings can use a different language from the global default. This is particularly useful when different conversations need different translation languages, but it is also the first place to check if only one chat produces an unexpected language.

Step 3: Enable Voice Message Translation

Turn on Voice message translation. Your setup should now be:

SettingRequired value
Incoming message translationOn
Incoming target languageEnglish
Voice message translationOn

With these settings enabled and Max activated, supported voice messages in the current conversation are translated automatically. Keep the relevant audio message visible and wait for the result to appear near it. You do not need to press a separate transcription button for each message.

Incoming text translation on its own is not enough: the voice translation switch must also be on. Automatic processing applies to supported messages available in the chat, not an unattended translation of your entire unloaded chat history.

Step 4: Read, Copy and Check the English Result

WAAudio displays the completed English text near the corresponding audio. Read it together with the messages immediately before and after the recording. The original voice message remains available for playback when you need to check a word or tone.

Use Copy translation, shown as the copy icon beside the result, to copy the displayed English text. Use Retry, shown as the circular arrow, to request processing again. If processing fails, the error message also offers a retry action. Retrying makes another request; it does not guarantee a more accurate result.

For a payment instruction, delivery commitment or other important detail, check names, amounts and dates against the original message. If you cannot understand the source language well enough to verify them, ask the sender to confirm those details in writing.

What the English Result Looks Like

These two interface examples show short English results beneath three-second audio messages. The waveform and playback control remain above the text, while retry and copy controls appear alongside the result.

“Yeah. Yeah.” appears below the audio waveform, with retry and copy controls on the right.
“You're right.” is readable within the same message as the original audio.

Short replies still depend on context. “You're right” expresses agreement with something said earlier; it does not by itself identify a price, quantity or delivery date that the sender has accepted. Read the preceding question before treating a brief reply as confirmation of a specific condition.

If the Voice Message Does Not Translate into English

Start with the settings that determine whether translation runs and which language it produces:

What you seeWhat to check or do
The voice translation switch is unavailableConfirm that Max is activated, then enable Incoming message translation before turning on Voice message translation.
Text messages translate, but voice notes do notCheck that Voice message translation is on and that the target audio is loaded and can play.
A result appears in another languageSet Incoming target language to English. Changing the interface language or outgoing target language will not correct this setting.
Only one conversation uses the wrong languageCheck that chat's Individual settings and its incoming target language.
A translation failure is displayedCheck that the original audio plays, then select Retry.
The English wording seems wrongReplay the recording, read the surrounding messages and ask for written clarification when necessary.

Background noise, overlapping speakers and unclear words can affect the transcription that translation depends on. A fluent English sentence is not proof that every detail was recognized correctly. If a number or name remains uncertain, repeating the request is less useful than getting that specific detail confirmed by the sender.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to click each voice message to translate it?

No. With Max activated, Incoming message translation enabled, Incoming target language set to English and Voice message translation enabled, supported voice messages in the current conversation are processed automatically. You do not need to request a transcript and then translate it separately.

Will I get English text or an English audio recording?

You get English text displayed near the original audio. You can read it or use Copy translation to copy it. This workflow does not generate a new English audio recording.

Why are my WhatsApp voice messages not translating into English?

Check the two switches and Incoming target language first. Then check whether Individual settings override the language for this conversation, whether Max is activated and whether the original audio can play. If an error is shown, use Retry after checking the audio.

Read the English Result in the Conversation

Turn on incoming message translation, select English as the incoming target language and enable voice message translation. You can then translate whatsapp voice messages automatically as supported audio is processed in the conversation, copy the result when needed and verify important details before replying.
